Enroll today and get singing!

Sore throats, strain, never being sure what my voice would do from one day to the next…that was my life as a singer for many years. Now, I understand how my voice works, and what it needs from me to stay strong and balanced – and I’m learning more everyday. I’ve taken the most important parts of my journey and put them into this course to help you build a reliable, consistent instrument that you can use to truly express yourself!”

Many of us are afraid to get the support we need for our voices because we believe in some or all of the following myths:

Myth #1: With singing, you Either have it, or you don’t

Singing is a skill: this means it is learnable. While some people do seem to be born with a good singing voice, this doesn’t mean that singing can’t be developed. Think of singing more like a sport: many of the world’s best athletes trained for many, many years with experienced coaches to be able to do what they do. Singing is the same. If you have the dedication to learning it, you will succeed.

Myth #2: Lessons will make me sound classical

There is an old (and stubborn) myth that singing in a classical style is the only healthy way to sing. That’s not true. That said, teachers often encourage you to look at parts of your sound you might not be familiar with, because your voice needs to be strong and balanced across different kinds of sounds in order to work effectively – this can contribute to that myth. Think of it like a runner stretching after a race – The stretches aren’t what we see when the runner is racing, but they’re a vital part of that runner being able to do their job.

Myth #3: Needing lessons means you’re not talented

The world’s highest achievers in all fields have coaches, guides and mentors to support them in their work – this does not take away from their achievements and talents. Rather, they know the value of investing in the areas of their lives that they want to grow and protect. Going to singing lessons means you recognise your voice’s value, and you want to make sure you understand how to work with and care for it.

These myths (and more!) can make us feel like singing lessons just aren’t a viable option.

I’ve been there. There’s that section of a song that you just can’t hit consistently. Or searching for remedies for a sore throat so that show can go on. There’s knowing that you are able to make a certain sound, but you just don’t know how to do it reliably. The endless youtube videos with five tips for this, 3 steps to that. You know they work sometimes, but you don’t know why.

Ontop of all of that, there’s the cost of going to singing lessons. Not all of us can have the money or the time. Not all of us are in a place where we have the energy to make our voices vulnerable to a new person, especially if we’ve had bad experiences in the past.

This course is my way of helping you to get some answers to these questions at half the cost of private singing lessons. In the time I’ve spent teaching singing, I’ve noticed that a big chunk of my first term with most singers is about two things: mythbusting and learning the foundations of vocal technique. Once we’re past this point, we get deeper into style, emotion and how to perform.

I’ve designed this course to make sure you have some steering from an experienced performer and teacher, while maintaining your freedom. I’ve designed it so that you can make good choices for your voice as you move forward.

Here’s why support for your voice matters

1. Singing is athletic. If you have a coach by your side each week, you can just follow their instructions and trust their knowledge, but if you’re not in a position to take weekly lessons, you need another tier of knowledge to help you make good choices. That’s what this course aims to give you.

2.  Feedback matters, especially at the start. While I spend most of my first classes with a student doing things I’ve put into this course, it plays out differently for each student. This course aims to give you that feedback and information in a low cost way.

3. When your vocal life is going fine, you might not need some of these tools. But when things aren’t going so well, having a solid grounding in technique and a network of singers to talk to is going to be a huge comfort and an important source of practical support.

4. Context is everything when it comes to singing. Videos online often have to follow certain rules to satisfy youtube rankings or rules on different platforms and this has an impact on how much information you get from a video about how and why certain exercises work. This course gives you the context for a lot of the information you’ll find online.

5. Getting tailored approaches for your voice is really helpful. Youtube videos cannot listen back to you; they cannot talk to you, they cannot tell you how to change an exercise that isn’t working for you, or why that change is a good idea. This course aims to arm you with the context you need to get the most out of anything you find online.

If you feel ready to enroll, then book your place today. I cannot wait to hear about your vocal journey on June 8th.

Education Emma O'Reilly

Scholarships and Pay what you can afford

Too often, music tuition is only accessible to those who can afford it. While we all understand that teachers have to make a living, it’s also painful to think of how many wonderful singers are missing opportunities to develop their voices. This is a great injustice.

I reserve 4 places on this course every time it runs for “Pay what you can afford” students, plus one free scholarship to the programme. By signing up for this course, not only are you investing in yourself, you are are investing in fairer access to music education.

If you are in financial hardship, but would love to attend, please contact me directly on info@emmaoreilly.ie.

What Emma’s Students are saying…

“I have had singing lessons with Emma for about a year now and since starting with her, I have felt how much better my singing ability has gotten. I find it so much easier to switch between head and chest voice and my confidence in my singing has really grown a lot. Emma always makes me feel comfortable and at ease, even when I make mistakes. There are so many things I am able to control better than I could even just a few months ago and I can always understand how her teachings apply to what we are doing in the sessions.”

– Lucy Di Benedetto  | Private student

📢📢 To anyone thinking about gifting these sessions to someone, or to even yourself!📢📢

I 100% recommend. Emma used to teach me, and you will not be disappointed. She is super down to earth, so warm and really knows what she’s talking about. She makes everything really easy to understand and delivers the results you’re looking for.

Emma, I learnt sooo much from you. Your teaching went beyond music and singing for me, and I really valued every minute of your time. 🙏❤️

– Poppy Power | Former student, via instagram

“Emma has an approachable teaching style, and makes you feel at ease in discussing any struggles you may currently be facing with your voice. She explains incredibly detailed and complex information in a clear and digestible way, providing a deeper understanding of your instrument and ways to care for it whilst developing your skills. She provides excellent resources to go alongside the lessons, and is genuine and encouraging. I really enjoyed the sessions and am feeling confident that I have the tools to develop my voice effectively going forward. Thank you Emma!”
